dave,

your issue is with the PackageKit not with all the KDE system!
So I do not get your point with the uninstalled and reinstalled the KDE .
The only package that need your attention was PackageKit on the user File : /usr/share/.

The PackageKit is the one I uninstalled and reinstalled

Couldnt see any packages in synaptic that were broken

Found packagekit and went into settings so I will see from here

dave ,

If you have no errors with the packagekit then you do not need to do there anything.
You work with Gnome = your package manager will be synaptic.
If you work with KDE then you can work with it.
At this point there is no need to play with it no more.
Just do all that you need in synaptic and terminal + Ubuntu tweak.
Live the issue with the package kit for now if there are no errors with it.

Ok thank you
It may have fixed itself when i reinstalled

I always use synaptic to install with or Ubuntu tweak other than that if I have to have a program its always a deb package and installed with GDebi package installer

Hello.

Well, I am having problems with DeVeDe. It starts up fine and allows all Menu/files/settings and menu options to proceed fine, as well as prompting for a filepath to save the DVD ISO output file to be located, but then when I hit proceed, NOTHING happens...

I've tried:
--Completely remove package, as well as the (Required[!!??!!]...WHY?) removal of what it said was Ultimate Edition 2.7, and when I checked further before proceeding, seemed to me to actually be Ultimate Edition 2.7 metedata package (the reason I believe this to be the case is because when I did a search, that package was marked with a white circle with a line through it, where the selected actions, or the installation of a package, is indicated)
...Then re-installing DeVEDE, but was UNABLE to find and re-install the Ultimate Edition 2.7 metadata package.

--running the recovery mode and then "Repair Broken Packages".

Everything STILL just stops after all settings/filepaths are saved, and the "Proceed" button is clicked.

--I even tried using a Unetbooten Live session, and it STILL won't work...THAT really worries me...SHOULD IT?

Please help...it is one of my most used applications, as it helps clear up my disk space....And all the other apps for authoring DVD ISO's are too complicated for me. DeVeDe was the only one I could understand.

OUCH! Really? I was not messing with this program in Synaptic until AFTER I had Problems, and , as I said, The SAME thing happened in a LIVE session. Sorry to question you, but it seems to me , the two cases MAY be a little different, AND, everything else Audio/Video ALL work fine and dandy, so, how could this be?

OK. So I have cleared out the Ultimate Edition 2.7 installation to prepare to do the clean install. I used Ultimate Edition 2.7 x64 ISO to create a Live USB Stick using Unetbooten (It only goes up to letting You choose Ubuntu 10.04, NOT 10.10)...Out of curiosity, I tried to run DeVeDe, and it did EXACTLY the same thing, with one key difference: it gave an option to send, and generated a crash report. The results are below. I am concerned the problem may be a hardware issue? I have changed nothing as far as the hardware config goes in quite a long time. Otherwise, it just makes no sense to me that I would get the exact same problem using a CLEAN, LIVE session...Anyway, I hope this may help someone give me a definitive answer before I do the fresh install.

The Crash Report of the LIVE session attempt:
