I have an issue where I can't force the audio to ONLY go to my headphones. In windows I can control the flow of audio from my external speakers or my headphones and I can switch between each. Right now I get audio through both but when I try and set my audio settings to output only through my headphones it wont work. No audio comes out. The ONLY way I can get it to force audio through my headphones is by unplugging cables and I dont want to do that for fear of wearing out my audio ports. Wierd enough Ido switch between the both because I have kids that nap :) Any direction would be greatly appreciated.

Hello zombiewhisperer .

Please look on my post on Mixers +Audio / Video,
there you will see what you have to do to get it to work.
If it is USB it will be easy to do - the question is if you have install the Mixers?
Alsa +Pulse Audio + Device Chooser.

I try to view all documentation before asking questions because I feel it ignorant and lazy to ask first and research later. I have looked at your screenshots on the setup and I think my issue is that they are both analog audio out ports on my computer. I have the Intel HDA integrated audio ports on the rear of my computer and then I have a headphone port in the front of the computer that is tied into a hard cable audio plug into the motherboard. So they basically are the same analog audio type not usb. I go to look and see if it gives me options for multiple channels per say that I can manipulate, but only 1 option appears.I dont know if there is a way I can manipulate the 'channels' of audio to where I can disable 1 and use the other. Correct me of Im wrong in what i've done so far because I am no specialist in linux. thanks amir.

Hello zombiewhisperer .

Intel HDA integrated audio
= I have the same.
SO I connect my speakers to the front exit / and If I want to get the headphone = just Disconnect the plug in the front,
Insert the headphone plug to the same place and you go to go all set.
Just fix the mixer for the output and you are set ;)

Hm.. if

cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec

gives me:

Codec: IDT 92HD73C1X5

what should I add in alsa-base.conf?

I have installed w64codecs. I followed this viewtopic.php?f=68&t=4649 instructions for 64 bit architecture. It's important to me to use 64 bit system.

marcin .

That is correct if you have 64 bit this is you package.
so just add alsa mixer (gnome alsa mixer) from synaptic.
And see that you have under pulse Audio - the Device Chooser installed.
Now I do not know if you have install plug ins like:
asf
xmms
lame
theora
avifiles
And the most important Gstreamer packages.

so please update on those subjects.

BTW - about your Question IDT 92HD73C1X5- here is your Answer for that:
