billhedrick.

Can you Reset your board ?
Disconnect all the connections after you have hung up the main power cable from your computer.
get the internal battery out - get wire line from the phone line (just blue or White ).
cut the wire for 10 cm and easy have the wires from bout side to be out of the Plastic cover.
you need to make the process in the image for 7 sec exactly !!
Not one sec more & Not one sec less - please this can make Damage to the battery!!!

This is what I ask you to do billhedrick.

And what this process do ?

OK - this process will clean all the Address of the board Hardware from being save on the battery.
so when you will connect back the battery (need to hear click ) when you insert the battery back in place,
then, connect back the main power cable (black) and start your machine,
log in to the BIOS set the right time back=>change the Boot from the Device (DVD) save & EXIT.
make sure that the U.E is in the DVD Drive before you make the EXIT from the BIOS !

GOOD LUCK.

hmmm... not sure I want to try that, but I understand what you are suggesting. basically you are "short-circuiting" the battery and clearing the firmware. Re-creating a fresh blank battery.

Yes correct - this will solve for you the issues with the Hardware - and will Reset the board.
So it will be like to have your machine start in the first time.
All the Hardware will get new Address and will be Restore on your battery.

no the prob I was having wasn't with the wireless, that seems ok, the ethernet has been failing on this lappy, I am digging around on how to flash the firmware (without burning the CMOS battery) but I might move into a different machine - I have access to a bit better Latitude that has a different set of problems!

There's also this which is for 9.10 but it may be helpful in 2.6 (10.04). I don't have a broadcom so I couldn't say for sure.
