Hello SK9 and welcome to the U.E Forum.

when you open terminal and start command with :
Code: Select all
sudo

Then you insert the password for the ROOT that make you ROOT user on your system.

OR.

you can add ROOT +pass from System=>Administration=>User & Groups.
Then you can Log Out from the user Desktop and Log in Back as ROOT+pass.
But do not try to serf the net with ROOT Desktop!

Hi
Thank you Amir..........
i searched & I used following method to set root password

" Open the terminal and type :
sudo passwd root
When you hit Enter it will ask u to Enter new UNIX password : , enter the password you want for the root user and confirm it. "

....in your previous post u said that " do not try to serf the net with ROOT Desktop!"
what will happen if user surf net using ROOT Desktop ? please explain.

Hello SK9.

well , if you serf with the ROOT user the Answer is very easy.
what will happens if Attacker will get your user pass?
Now the system will be yours? OR it will be his?
ROOT is the Admin user on your machine , if someone will have the access to this ACC,
It say something very simple the system is not yours, the modem/router is not yours etc.
The machine is in other person Controlled and not yours anymore.
Hope that will give you the idea way not to surf with the ROOT option. ;)

Hi Admin-Amir. :) Thanks for starting this thread and for helping us. OK, my issue is on Ultimate Edition 2.6 & 2.6.1 x64 (10.04/.1LTS) my wireless connection is not detected. Now, Moebius was kind enough to point me in the right direction for a wireless package for the i386/32 bit version, this link https://launchpad.net/~markus-tisoft/+archive/rt3090. I would prefer to use the 64bit version of Ultimate Edition. My wireless driver is called Ralink RT3090PCIe. Any help is appreciated. :)

Hello everyone,

I'm have some issue with Ultimate Edition 2.6.1.
I just installed it on an old DELL Inspiron 6000 (the lappie doesn't have wireless internet) and the wired internet is not working.
When I plug in my cable, 2.6.1 just cant see the cable.

I wonder what the issue is and would love any help I can get.
The lappie is 32bit

Thanks

PS
God bless Theemahn and Admin Amir, several of your posts have helped me out of many tight Ubuntu spots.

Just a lack of firmware support.

Simple kernel upgrade should fix ya up no problem.

Thank you so much, but the kernel upgrade did not work.

The lappie still isn't seeing my network cable, meanwhile, I use it to browse in windows and linux mint Isadora (the 2.6.1 wouldn't connect to the internet at all).

Please what else can I do?

Admin-Amir or Theemahn, please I need one of you to reply to my issue.
I have a DELL Inspiron 6000 (very old lappie anyways), running Ultimate Edition 2.6.1 and it doesn't see anything internet, cable or modem.
I have tried upgrading the kernel offline, but to no avail.
Please what do I do, cause I'm losing patience.
Thanks
