I don't understand this, Amir.
As I read the first instructions, these lines should be in ~/.imwheelrc, not the /etc/X11/imwheelrc/startup.conf.
Am I wrong?
And where, then, should
Code: Select all
IMWHEEL_START=0

be changed?

Thanks for the tip, Blackwolf.
I followed it to the point, but my mouse froze the second after.
I noticed that it also froze when synaptic(?) was running updates earlier. Can that be relevant information?
Firefox was not running at the time. Nor any other browser.

Hi ramforth. I have wondered if you could try this? When you get to the grub screen go into edit for your ubuntu and on the line that looks like this

linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31-18-generic root=UUID=5e7bf96d-535e-4c37-9830-dd41669b2778 ro splash vga=791 quiet splash

at the end of this line add i8042.reset so the line looks like this

linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.31-18-generic root=UUID=5e7bf96d-535e-4c37-9830-dd41669b2778 ro splash vga=791 quiet splash i8042.reset

then press Ctrl x to boot

If this works you will have to add this to your grub2 menu to make it permanent.

Bought a new keyboard today. A Logitech Razer Lycosa.
Testing with this now. I don't know for sure, but it seems like there's more time between the hangs... could very well be coincidence of course.
I am thinking about trying to install Ultimate Edition 2.5 x86 instead of my 2.4 64-bit. Any views on this from the more experienced users?
I read somewhere that there's more hardware support or something on the 32-bit version. Is this true?
Will try to edit the Grub tomorrow. See how that goes before I try anything else.
I'll keep you updated.
Thank you all very much for your patience and your good help! :)

Hi ramforth,
With regard to Ultimate Edition 2.5 32bit - Reading your third post, you mentioned the error was occurring even if you tried running in Live mode, so try 2.5 32bit in Live mode and see what happens. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. ;) :D

Cheers.

Seems like it didn't help much with the LiveDVD of 2.5.
I will backup my data now, and clean out my PC totally, and install 2.5 from scratch, with all drives totally empty.
Fedora didn't even boot from LiveCD. :?

Hello Jo E. Roset,
I use ubuntu/gnome, and I have the same situation. mouse freezes. The strange thing is that I use one usb port for wireless mouse and keyboard. The keyboard keep working when the mouse goes away. So, I think its not a Usb issue... And as you said, after reboot, everthing became fine for a while.
My configuration:
Motherboard asus m3n hd-hdmi with AMD Phenom(TheeMahn) 9950 Quad-Core Processor and 8Gb memory

Did you find the solution for this problem?
I will try to update the bios...

Thanks.

regards,
Dunguel
