Spin Up DVD drive [Solved]

Help and support for Ultimate Edition 2.4

Spin Up DVD drive [Solved]

Postby saiyuki » Tue Dec 01, 2009 1:52 pm

Not specifically a Ultimate Edition problem but with installing a program with Wine. I'm trying to install a program consisting of 2 DVD's. The 1st installs ok, but when i put in the 2nd disk to continue the install, the DVD initially starts to spin then does nothing. I know that once i can get the DVD to spin up it will probably continue to load, but i'm stuffed in how to do this.

The disk is clean and the DVD drive is working ok. Is there a command line call i could issue that would spin up the drive?

Regards

It just clicked how to solve the problem, usually i wake up in the middle of the night with a solution ( note to self:............get a life  )

I minimized the program install screen and saw that the 1st disk icon was still there. What happened was that the program installer ejected the 1st disk and asked for the 2nd disk, but it didn't unmount the 1st one. I simply right-clicked on the icon and selected 'Unmount'. Once the 2nd disk was put in, the install continued as it should.

You can try this...

Code: Select all
sudo umount /media/cdrom0

and then to remount the first disk if needed...

Code: Select all
sudo mount -t udf -o ro,unhide /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom0

There is a specific wine command, but for the life of me I can't remember it right now.
