Remastersys [Solved]

Help and support for Ultimate Edition 2.4

Remastersys [Solved]

Postby saiyuki » Sun Nov 29, 2009 11:01 am

Hi. Prior to my pre-winter cleanout (dust etc..) from my system, i used Remastersys to make a complete backup, including updates, so that in the event something went wrong, i could wipe and re-install UE2.4 back to how i had it (including customisations). I successfully burnt the disk and ended up stripping/rebuilding my system so it's like new.

When booting up with the backup disk, i get a 'cannot find the ramdisk' error. I get the error even if i select any of the other choices (is it supposed to be text only?). I followed the instructions to the letter to make sure everything was ok. I have 4GB of ram so i guess that's not the problem. Perhaps something was omitted from the Remastersys instuctions. As it turned out i have re-installed from my original Ultimate Edition 2.4 disk.

Has anyone else come up against this error for future reference.

Regards

Hello and welcome to Ultimate Edition Forums saiyuki. Hope you enjoy your stay :)

Re your reported problem, please visit the link below. Your problem seems to be a memory problem. One of the solution that was on the link below was to remove one of your memory chips and do the installation an when your done you can go ahead an install the chip back.

Wow that's weird having to make sure only one ram slot is used :? I have 2X2GB DDR2 chips installed so i assume i don't need to worry about being above 512MB Ram.

Thanks for the welcome and the link.

Its actually pretty common...but unless you reset your bios in your "winter clean up" it shouldn't be needed...but I've seen weirder things.

Did you check the remasterd disk after you made it?

Yes i went through the bios and made sure all was ok. The disk was fine but what i will do hopefully today, is to have another go at it just to see if the ram chip was the problem. I'll post back later :)

Hi. I re-downloaded Remastersys and re-burnt a disk, this time there were no reported errors about a missing ramdisk. I still had 4GB of ram installed so i guess that's wasn't the problem. What the problem was though i have no idea :? as the 1st install of Remastersys showed no errors or complained of anything when i used it. Perhaps it's 'just one of those things'.
