dirty wrote:I know there is an option but i also know that for those like me who just switched from windows this option makes no sense just like partitioning process. Its all so weird compare to Windows setup so thats why i posted this idea about bootloader.

Check this out:
Once i figured how bootloader works (just a couple of days ago) i was changing its install to same HDD where UBUNTU is going to, but last night i reinstalled ubuntu and i forgot to changer bootloader destination and BAM !!! Windows boot is wiped out.
If boot loader would install its self to same hard drive as ubuntu i would not have to reinstall XP to fix booting it up.

All you had to do since you installed Ultimate Edition bootloader into your windows partition, was to just reinstall Ultimate Edition and change back the destination of your bootloader to where Ultimate Edition is installed.

on anotther note windows is kinda picky when it comes to boot priority the first 4 boot partitions are reserved for windows so boot order should be vista -- XP--98/me --95

thats why when you default install any other operating system, its on hda5 or higher.

triple bootin is its own animal when you are talking about osx windows and linux. so the boot order will be windows hda0-4 osx hda5 linux hdaX one guy tried to install over 255 osses on his computer all linux variants and on virtual machines.

Speaking of windows, why is it when vista updates its like going over your girlfriends house, and her father answers the door and tells you to wait outside till she gets ready. ( reboot machine, wait..... wait... wait... please wait till windows install update 1 of 3 ..... :? ) while linux just lets ya in and invites you to have a few <BREW> <BREW> your in doing your own thing surfin da net and otherwise gettin stuff done. meanwhile windows finally lets you in..

windows is not picky, you need to edit boot.ini file to set your own priority as simple as that.
Speaking of Vista: Vista sucks end of discussion.
Speaking of Updates (Screw updates) as long as it works i dont want any stupid updates that in most cases makes things worse. LOL (personal preference)
Good thing about Windows any version is that if you want it to install on HDD1 it will install boot information to that HDD1 as well as its self. Install another Windows version to another HDD and it will install its boot to that another HDD not effecting the HDD1 boot previously installed. Wana go for third ? Sure as many partitions you have :)
Then which ever HDD boots first set in Bios menu of your Motherboard is the one that can change the priority to which OS to boot first. This is first grade computing
But linux install its self on one hard drive and Bootloader to another messing up what ever booting information was previously there (damn it)

Fast doesn't always mean good in all cases. You just need to accept the fact that windows is windows and linux is just linux, windows way of doing things is not linux way of doing it. When you think about linux way of partitioning a hard disk, its not bad at all. If Linux was mimicking windows in everything that they do, then i guess linux wouldn't be much different. Linux wouldn't be this GREAT. My thoughts!!

I would like to see clam antivirus installed by default - Ubuntu does a poor job of TK.

From limited use of both it looks like the other front end works with email and not just checking the disk.

Yes Linux may have no viruses but neither should they being spread - I've found problems with an ap I was going to install to a Linux server by checking.

This is the ultimate edition so pre-installing a necessary item like a virus checker seems logical.
