It is my wifi that I cannot get to work, but you have given me plenty to work with. I will give it another shot as soon as I have a bit of time for it. Thanks for all the info. :D
I shall report success or not.

I also am having and issue with the WiFi in 2.3, I can connect via a direct connect (RJ45)
But no luck with WiFi.
After reading you posts on this site I have downloaded the WICD deb file, when I run it in UE2.3 It states that there is a conflict with Network Mgr.
Do I need to unistall Netork Mgr first?
Please help, I am a Newbe and love you software.

The following operation that your going to perform is not guaranteed that it will work/get your WIFI working, but it is worth giving a shot.

Please run the following commands in a terminal:

Code: Select all
sudo aptitude remove network-manager

sudo aptitude remove network-manager-gnome

THEN:

Code: Select all
sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart

Thanks, I have used your suggestion and was able to install WICD on my Laptop.
But, the results were the same still no reliable WiFi (very limited).
The signal is strong 95%, but when I try run the update or use the web no good!

I have an HP HDX 18 laptop and everthing works except the WiFi, does anyone have any suggestions???

Please help.

Thanks for your suggestion, but the problem is not just the update sites, rather the WiFi connection it self.
If I hard wire (RJ45) I have no issues, but when I try to use the WiFi for any connection It will not work!
Is ther a bug in Ubuntu?
or is ti something I am doing?
I have tried twice a Clean Install with the same results.
Please send your suggestions, I am new at Linux and realy like Ultimate Edition

Hello pwburns

I agree with cell on the connecting as a hidden network

just need to know what is the situation with your Firewall
and did you configure it right and allow connection from your ISP
or you have blocked your ISP in the Firewall
if you click left on the icon of the monitors you will have the option
for configure the encryption of your network security
use the WEP&WPA2
for your encryption you will have to fill in the network name and password
then disconnect the wire from the machine
if you use Firestarter then you will have to change the way it works
for LAN

FOR Wireless

just don't forget to change if you use the LAN

If you need Quick Guide for Firestarter I will make one for you
