Problems with Xorg+Nvidia (Perfectly Solved)

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 2.2

Problems with Xorg+Nvidia (Perfectly Solved)

Postby Insomnia » Sat Oct 17, 2009 5:05 am

Hi guys, I've been using Ultimate Edition since a very long time now, but since I've bought a laptop it has become a nightmare and I missed using Ultimate Edition... Well long story short, I installed Ultimate Edition 2.2 on this pc and now it's giving me the same errors as before when I tried installing it. It's a m17x Alienware, and I don't know if it's the 2 graphic cards that make this error appear, I have no idea what's going on and I need serious help. I updated Ultimate Edition and everything with the update manager, then started Envyng and chose what appeared as recommended and compatible... Then the reboot and now the Xorg window appears... I feel really powerless over this since I've been trying to use Ultimate Edition at it's full capacity and it has been vast less hours of googling, forums, instructions, everything and I can't seem to hit the spot.

If you need more info I'll provide but PLEASE help me guys (The video cards are Nvida 8800 GTX)

It's giving me the same error on Xorg... How can I do it from the Xorg window? I mean can I do it from there through root? This is starting to be frustrating specially cause I'm not a pro in this :|

I reinstalled Ultimate Edition 2.2, then updated the info added all that it says on that post and followed the steps, there was no hardware to select, so installed those nVidia drivers that says, then did all the following things and then rebooted

When I did the xorg.conf it appeared the Device Settings already but only up till the identifier... I'm going to reinstall again and try without the first Video Card... It appeared both of them as 03:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GeForce 8800M GTX (rev a2) and the other one as 04:00.0...

EDIT: It didn't work :( I need help here guys, I really love this OS...

I really don't know why is it giving me an error, I'm thinking of manually taking a video card out (even though I don't know how) but I'm running out of options. I thought that for this version everything was going to be fixed, but seems the guys at Nvidia haven't been doing their homework (better said I'M not doing the homework :P). Anyways at least it's not getting to be a pain, but getting annoying since I need this OS for my work because it's secure, liable, efficient, doesn't crash and I totally love it. I've very grateful for your efforts on this OS and much more grateful if I make it work :P

Sli is a bit tricky, if you don't edit your xorg.conf just after installing the driver, but before you reboot - at least I don't know how to fix it.
But maybe you can do if from a root promt. One way to get to that is booting op choosing "recovery mode" and then "root - Drop to root shell promt"

Then write
Code: Select all
    lspci | grep VGA

and post what is sayes here please.
