Hi all
quick question to those who faced this problem, which partition do you use for Ultimate Edition installation ext2, ext3 or ext4?
I will tell you why: I did face the same problem on my friends PC and the problem was the ext4.
With some Intel motherboards (I'm still putting together the exact list) you can face slower than usual detection of Serial ATA HDs Ubuntu 9.04 or any distro based on that OS. This may cause the system to drop to a busybox initramfs shell on boot or shutdown with sometimes a error message.
There is a solution for some motherboards:
(use it at your own risk, this might not be the problem of yours, I will explain further...)- Code: Select all
sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst
add
- Code: Select all
rootdelay=90
to the kernel line of kernel you are using (if you have multiple ones)
As I said it might be another problem with xserver-xorg-video-intel (intel GPUs). In fact X session freezes and the PC can crash sometimes when you wanna reboot or restart. That bug is still under investigation under Ubuntu team since 9.04 is the first OS with ext4 file system, you can call it still beta or better alpha, what so ever.
Good luck
