see... I really think I need to exhaust the software possibilities first. If I can update the bios and firmware, and fir the problem without tearing the machine down, that seems to me to be the better way

I do appreciate it! I will try that if the software solutions don't work. Well I went to MSI's website and they have a real nice live update tool for updating drivers, I updated the bios and various mobo drivers, didn't update my Video card as I still have the Radeon card in here and rebooted. I lost grub! No big I can fix that with supergrubdisk. I am out working on other projects this weekend, so I don't know if I will get to work on it but I will let you know what happens. Worst case? reinstall Ultimate Edition which isn't a real tough thing
