Have stated on here that I have tried many Operating systems, one of which my first was PC-BSD 9.0. The reason I tried it was the brilliant idea of having what I call a "Go between" with the system itself and programs being installed! As I have stated, am not brilliant on some of my choices for programs! At times, I fully do not comprehend the intentions of a program. This leads to a lot of uninstalling! Especially, when you find a program will wreak havoc on another program that you really need! When I read about this new concept where programs would install to this "Go Between" which would not harm crucial system files when uninstalling I was quite impressed and can still see a great advantage to a concept of such! I also regard that developer as quite a genius to actually make the concept a reality! As I was unable to run that OS for too long at all, would love to know how well that concept actually functions? See unfortunately, back then(seems like a lifetime but only since April this year) I didn't have much of a clue how to get wireless drivers working on it. Funny thing though, found out the glu code was not so complete for those anyway! Since I was a real novice, I was not so aware! I also had no clue what VBOX was! I was dual-booting with sidewinder and tried in vain to get a connection but lost out! Anyway, I never had a great chance to try this concept so much. Sure I installed some programs with the PBI, which is part of this system, called a "Push button installer" which I was fortunate to download on sidewinder then transfer. Seemed installation went quite well and uninstalls were a huge advancement from sidewinder! No complaints, just uninstalled and done! Of course when I finally made my way to Linux, uninstalls seemed to go easy also! So I lost sight of this concept a bit. Now I can really see a high potential which would increase an Operating system's resilience! Imagine what Ultimate would be like with a configuration of such? Or perhaps in relation to my post this morning, imagine when TheeMahn succeeds on what he is working on? Ultimate will become relentless and undying! No Ubuntu Software Center as an Achilles heal!!!! Yes, have been there! A poor choice for a program and an installation from Software Center knocked Ultimate down! Of course Ultimate is not the only OS that this happens to! There are many, way to many to count! Now being able to nip that problem before having to reload is an absolute miracle! Programs that are outdated, not properly configured to run with current kernel, sometimes slip by repositories. I mean we are after all "Only human!" Some of these programs will then be able to be reconfigured to work! I know am ranting a lot, but I am just totally impressed by these concepts that will enhance our computing experiences and provide following generations with more of a chance to learn! We are living in a great time! A time where these developers seek vengeance on the hassles of computing! I absolutely love it! Would love to hear if others feel the same and also if have used PC-BSD longer than a months time and know the value of the PBI system?
