We have a bold button, an Italics button and an underline button, but I just don't see the Heavy sarcasm button.

It's like Ubuntu picks an area in each release to totally screw up.
Like a magician waving his left hand, you don't notice what he's doing with his right.
Think about it for a moment:
In each release what was the most asked subject?
Fiesty... Install issues
Gutsy... Video issues
Hardy... Laptop installs
Intrepid... They've outdone themselves here and given us not one but two major issues... sound & connectivity.

Tell me I'm wrong!

ps: I'll have to ask Cab about the "heavy sarcasm" button.

Perhaps we can use all buttons together to make it stand for "sarcastic"

I want to vote for opting to better start building our distro out of Debian Etch Please Thee, consider it! Don't make me do it by myself! (cuz I can't... )
Anyway, what do you all think? I know debian doesn't have the latest and coolest, but it has some 17000 pagkages that are all STABLE, debian it's all about stability and functionallity rather than just hollow coolness and toyfull, and I believe that with TheeMahn's special touch it can become the BEST linux distro out there, even better than any Ultimate Edition so far! And not like the cannonical guys, I don't think debian will have something bad to say about you and your great work, after all there are a lot of debian based distros out there.
Shall I put down a public poll on this?

I like Debian very much. Their community, philosophy etc. However, With Debian a more advanced knowledge of Linux is a must(depenency resolve for one). I don't think the average user wants to spend the extra time to learn. I still get packages from Debian's site and this one: http://debian-multimedia.org/
You can get the latest and greatest stuff from them by using the experimental packages!!!
Getdeb(http://www.getdeb.net/) is also a good source of newer packages.
Ideally, we build our own OS. We start with a kernel and work from there.

Hey ziv, to bring a debian distro up to Ultimate's caliber is a major undertaking in an of itself getting the packages alone is a chore to say the least. Now lets not forget that we only have "ONE" " Mahn for the job currently. and as much as we cherish and appreciate him and his great work, he still has to have a life of his own. Somewhere along the lines of Work Wine Women and Song. now granted in a few years, we could all endeavor to help out Thee with the grunt work and become certified specialist in our respective fields ( I Apologize if you think that I am making a personal attack on you at this moment, just generalizing right now. Most of us are just hacking and tinkering Trying to finger half this Sh!t out and passing our knowledge Minus the Bumps, borks, and Bruises to make our Ultimate Users experience less than sour) Other than you and a few well heeled Linux gurus.

But other than that I believe that WE as "THee TEam" could knock it out. Our release schedule might slow down mostly because of quality control < yay betas> and pounding away until some pretty pristine code flows out to the masses.

Oh yeah one more point, THee does this in his free time with no compensation <BREW> just a little collaboration and a warm fuzzy every now and then, when someone pipes up and says "thanks THee Mahn and crew. Your Distro Made My SH!T work out the box :D <BREW> "

Don't worry, I didn't take nothing personally, I know you're talking generally.
I also think Thee is taking too much $#!% under his own care, and you all know hoe many times people here offer help but sometimes he's so busy doing what he does best that he doesn't even have time to handle stuff over to other people, so he can only rely on a true hotshot programmer that he can only tell him what has to be done and the guy can manage to understand what exactly to do and how, without having Thee to take him in hand and guide him step by step, unfortunately most of us are more keen to help than our knowledge allows. That's why I always propose to release less versions, so we can all have time to beta test longer, and Thee can make it easier on himself with less pressure to finish something.
It's right that to make a similar job based on Debian may take longer, and it may be harder, but the result will last much much longer too! and all is required after that is only improve the existing instead of yet fixing the unstable and unfinished newer.

Hmmm. Only takes me ~3 hours and while I prefer to install Linux, a large percentage of the world is afraid to try something new, so I end up doing a lot of Windows installs.
Due to necessity I have streamlined the process.
1) Very 1st step... Get all the discs the the user wants installed and make it clear any apps added later will cost extra. This almost always guarantees I only have to install apps in one setting.

2) partition the disc with "Parted magic" live CD
3) while M$ is installing, download All the drivers and burn them onto a disc.
4) When the install is complete, copy all the drivers to a Temp folder and install
5) Install a custom theme & background
6) install the apps

pch.shot wrote:Just stop buying hardware that is not supported by LInux(take a LInux live disc on your purchase runs). It will save you a lot of grief in the long run.

While I agree with you, you're missing Strider's point.
His biggest frustration is what works seamlessly in one release has issues in the next one.
(just because someone's hardware is compatible with todays release doesn't mean it will work with the next release)
AND
by upgrading just a handful of packages, like "Hardware Drivers" they could continue to support their LTS release for newer hardware.
