I'm also having an issue with enabling the nvidia graphic drivers for my video card GeForce 9400M. I enabled the nvidia 180. . . driver via envy but upon reboot I get garbled graphics and a login prompt. I reverted to the default xserver settings and was able to boot into to the os again. What have I done incorrectly?

Hello griffineyes.

First thing first, your going to download the driver from the link provided below and save it to your desktop, then log out of the system. When your at the login screen, hold "Ctrl + Alt + F2" to bring up console/text mode. Login as root user. Type "cd desktop" then hit enter, then "sudo killall gdm" then press enter, then "sudo sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-185.18.14-pkg1.run" or "sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-185.18.14-pkg2.run" for x64 driver. Follow the on screen information to complete the installation!!

1. it fails to download the new kernel from the NVIDIA website.
2. it attempts to build a new kernel and fails.
3. i have to reboot and revert the graphics drivers

I am not sure why it didn't build the new kernel successfully. I am thinking maybe because your running Ultimate Edition from Virtualbox, because everything should just run smood.

Edit: My guess it that this won't work because Virtualbox is using "Virtualbox Graphics Adapter" and not your physical Nvidia card!!
