Title is pretty self-explanatory, is there a way to do this? I've read on Ubuntu forums that you can put it in a compatibility mode or something, but I couldn't figure that out. I'm tired of downloading a program, opening the package with GDebi, and seeing "Wrong architecture - i386". Simply, how can i install such packages on an amd64 system?

After my extensive searches for an answer elsewhere, I've seen people post their processor, so I'm using an Intel Core2 Duo.

See if you can find a 64 bit version of the package you are trying to install. What is it you are looking for, anyway? If you google your package name with 64 bit and intrepid(or debian) added you may just find what you are looking for.
