Nothing Works!

Postby ubuntu » Tue Feb 24, 2009 12:57 am

I am a total noob that just migrated to Ultimate Edition Gamers. When I click on a game It either does nothing or enters a black screen with a frozen cursor. What can I do to fix this. (im a noob so use granny terms  )

Right click on your desktop: Change Desktop Background Visual Effects and see if you can enable extra. If you can you should be good to go. If not please list the make and chipset#(i.e. Nvidia 7100GS which are mine) of your video card. Also your complete system specs. It looks like the kernel may not be loading the correct driver for your video card.

Try turning off compiz-fusion when you play games. Your system might not be able to handle both at the same time(1 gig of ram). I would recommend upping your ram if you are planning on doing any serious gaming. Keep in mind that some video cards borrow system ram to function so this could be what is causing the problems. Keep posting with your results.

The other option is to re-install a game using Synaptic Package Manager.
You could also try a low end game like Frozen Bubble(install with Synaptic or from a terminal type apt-get install frozen bubble) and see if that plays.
