Installer partitioner does not recognize SATA drives

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 2.0

Installer partitioner does not recognize SATA drives

Postby tjksn » Sun Jan 25, 2009 10:00 pm

I have installed Ubuntu, including Ultimate Edition, in the past on an 80Gb SATA drive I have on my system, however when I try to install Ultimate Edition 2.0 the partioner only shows the IDE drive I have. Running Ultimate Edition from a live DVD I can access both the IDE and two SATA drives via Nautilus. Any ideas why this is?

You may have to go into your bios and tinker with the settings there. Someone else had this problem before but I can't remember the solution. Maybe unplug and plug back in the hard drives. Open up QTparted from the live disc and see what that says.

When I try QtParted I get an error loading it. Using the partition editor under administration I can see all the drives and change partitions no problem. It is only the partitioner the installer uses that does not recognize the SATA drives. All BIOS settings are fine.

You can always set up and format your partitions first using this:

I am certain I shut down Windows correctly and I have already used Gparted to partition and format the drive. It just seems strange to me that I can access the drives in Nautilus, but the partitioner cannot. Also, on a different but possibly related note, in Windows I cannot create new folders in the new partitions. Is this indicating a drive problem? Or is this just an XP issue?

My bad!! To launch qtparted go to your /usr/bin directory(that is where most of your executable files are) and launch it from there. The reference icon is borked and I help test it. Shame on me!!

you have e real strange configuration 40gb game data is static i think.
So i suggest that you remove the 40gb IDE
So you left with 2 Sata drive's.
Now tray to set te 500gb to master en the 80 to slave with your jumpers.
Then reboot your machine with Ultimate Edition 2.O live cd en start the install then Si witch hard-drive is visible.
If its the 500 Gb I think grub will detect the windows installation on the slave drive 80gb.
After this reinsert the 40gb ide en mount or view it from your xp.
I hope it helps for not i'm just e beginner and learning with falling and standing up.
like everyone.
