can't get new install

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 2.0

can't get new install

Postby ima » Tue Nov 11, 2008 11:32 pm

I have a triple boot..vista, Ultimate Edition 1.8 and Ultimate Edition 1.9. I'm trying to replace my 1.8 with 2.0. Here is the problem, at install I manually chose the partition of the 1.8 and deleted it then created it again and installed on that place. When I started 2.0 it has all the settings of my old 1.8, it even has the same items on the desktop. During install I didn't choose to use settings from anywhere else. I have reinstalled it several times and it is the same thing.

So how do I get a completely new install on this partition?

Thanks

Delete partition, reboot. Start installation from scratch, and choose the empty space in which to create a new partition, and proceed from there.

Since I haven't begun my own installation, I'm not sure which partitioning tool is in use in Ultimate Edition 2. But, I can say from experience that changes to the partition table often times do not take effect until the machine is rebooted. Apparently, the partitioning tool is rolling back previous changes when you use the not-yet empty space.

Note that your partition MAY BE RENAMED after deleting the existing volume. SDA4 may very well become SDA3, once SDA2 has been removed (assuming you are on the first SATA drive, with 4 or more partitions)

It really CAN get confusing, so watch it carefully, lol. I have unintentionally deleted a few partitions in my time.

an alternativ is also to click the reformat partion in in the install wizard...it will reformat that partion and install right there deleteing the previous settings but you still get to keep the name of all of your hard drives

Okay I got it. I went into my 1.9 and formated the partition with Qpart.
