Help & support for Ultimate Edition 2.0

Hey what happened to my menu's?

Postby LeadFingers » Sun Nov 09, 2008 5:16 am

So you just downloaded Ultimate Edition 2.0, burned the iso, and loaded the live DVD
but now can't find the Applications Places System menu, that used to be next to the U.E logo,
don't feel alone. No you didn't get a bad download or a bad burn, You are now the proud owner of the next generation Nautilus Menu. Hit the U.E icon in the top left corner, and the collapsible menu will drop down.

If you had a blond day and played with gnome-do and Synaptic trying to that find elusive component to get your menu's properly installed, know you're not alone. Even the best of us are susceptible to Distro-Fever. Welcome to one of several new features in Ultimate Edition 2.0. :D
1st Box: Ultimate Edition 2.0 x64/ 1.8 x64
2nd Box: XP (dusty)
3rd Box: Stable Media box Ultimate Edition 1.8 x64 with XBMC

Cool. Now there is less clutter and more room on the panel to customize with. Did they take the hint and hide the least used programs? There are a lot of people that asked for It. I hate to admit it but I do miss this feature the other O$ has.

I personally like the old set-up..it is user friendly for newcomers they at least have some clue on where to click and find...
We have always has the option to change the panel or even eliminate it all together...
And use Awn or even Cairo Dock.... :)

Thanks guys, I have finally sussed it. I admit to being "not too technical" and a bit on the slow side - things like this throw me completely and I agree with cowboy as I prefer what I know and to go from there.
Putting that aside, huge thanks to Themann for another enormously successful edition of UU, I have been one of his biggest fans for around two years now and long may he continue. Not being a programmer I can only imagine the amount of work and time which goes into each project. Thanks again.

Nice. I've downloaded the DVD, 64 bit. I don't have time to do an install, but I did fire up the LiveDVD, and it looks nice. More usable desktop real estate is always a good thing, IMHO. I HATE anything that takes away space! (excess toolbars, side panels, anything)

I need to do some backing up of media files, bookmarks, and some other stuff, since I'll be "upgrading" from 32 bit to 64 bit. I don't believe there is an upgrade path for that, which will mean in effect, format and fresh install.

That will be a weekend project, which is unfortunately days away.

But, I really do like what I see!! The old engineer's adage, KISS, always works for me. (Keep It Simple, Stupid)

(A bit of nostalgia - when I got my first 64 bit computer, NOTHING would connect to to the internet for me - not Windows, not Suse, not Debian, no matter how much I diddled with drivers and settings. God, it's so sweet to plug in a DVD and everything works!)
