I tested to do as you said Nick

Install this
Unzip and place in /usr/lib32

but didnt work. the sound is totally dead.

works fine until i install the nvidia 177 driver, tested with the 173 to and no changes.

strange that it worked directly in 8.04 (Ultimate Edition 1.9)

Now i noticed that my 3d effects with compiz dont work either...

btw i have a geforce 8500 gt

pls help me...

Sorta similar problem here ... sound but only one channel. As Nick said (except that I did it all via Synaptic), dumped Pulseaudio and reinstalled ALSA and all is well ...

We don't want you to back either :)

Try the screenshots.

If no good for sound try
Terminal>
sudo killall pulseaudio

sudo alsa force-reload

and then go to System>Preferences>Sound and change everything to ALSA

i tried that before, didnt work.

but it seems like its another problem. because like i said before its just not the sound, its the graphic card to. i can install the drivers and in the "nvidia x server settings" it says its working, but i cant enable compiz or avant etc.

/thx for all help

people with sound issues... I personally hate pulse audio as well, but it is tightly integrated into the O/S, I tried to completely remove it and replace it with alsa, once pulse is removed from the system it no longer allowed me to enter the GUI. I have found a non-destructive solution, please let me know if this helps.

Would anyone have an idea why Compiz doesn't load when I log in? I have to run "compiz --replace ccp & gtk-window-decorator --replace &" every time, and it's getting annoying! I tried putting the command in my Startup, but still doesn't work. This was happening in 1.8 also. I reformatted before installing 2.0, but my Home dir is in a diff partition, so that didn't get reformatted. Do I need to back up my Home files and format all partitions and start over? Does anyone know of a fix for this?

Start the Fusion Icon and select compiz as the windows manager. To get this to load at start up with the seetings go to sessions and add "fusion-icon" without the quotations and in all lowercase.
