I, too have run into a similar issue with Ultimate Edition 2.0x86. My 19" widescreen moniter was giving me a MODE NOT SUPPORTED message when using a DVI input.
Here is what I did...

1. Verified the MD5 sum (to make sure the download was good)

2. Burn at 4X or slower (in windows, I use IMGBURN, which is a free download)

3. When booting into a live session, choose the option START IN SAFE GRAPHICS MODE.

4. Partition and install from the live cd session.

5. Restart and once again choose safe graphics mode when logging in. If you cannot see the login screen, refer to jfg69's thread titled "SAFE GRAPHICS MODE?"

6. After I logged in, the FIRST thing I did was install the ATI drivers.

After restarting again, everything was good to go.

Ultimate edition gave a very hot spicy taste of ubuntu to me. I m love'n it! :)
