My HP has the Broadcom 4321AG (sometimes reported as 4328) wireless interface. It works great under PCLinux 2009 "out of the box" from the LiveCD, and I think i just needed to "ndiswrap" the Broadcom WiFi drivers for Windoze (filename "bcmwl6.inf" IIRC) under Ultimate 2.2 and 2.3 64-bit editions. I think it also worked on the 32 bit versions of UU (on the 64 bit AMD HP laptop) after considerable tweaking. Use the Synaptic Package manager to install all things "ndiswrapper" in the quick search box. ndiswrapper 1.55, ndiswrapper-common, ndiswrapperutils, and there is also a GTK GUI for it that you will want to get "ndisgtk" as I recall.
http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/ndisgtkBroadcom has recently released a driver for Linux (in both 32 and 64 bit versions). It can be found here:
http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.11/linux_sta.phpI believe that is loadable as a kernel module. Otherwise, there is a lot of good info at this page:
