need help updates don,t work

hello all i need help fixing my updater in ultimate 1.9 the updates will download but will not open or install.
i keep getting error message E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report. how do i fix this?

Open up an terminal and type that in and hit enter. That's what run means.

In a terminal type
Code: Select all
sudo dpkg --configure -a

and
Code: Select all
apt-get update
1st Box: Ultimate Edition 2.0 x64/ 1.8 x64
2nd Box: XP (dusty)
3rd Box: Stable Media box Ultimate Edition 1.8 x64 with XBMC

thanx think i fixed it but im also suffering freeze ups now and then any ideas? usually freezes during screen saver and sometimes while you r using it will be very sluggish and reactions are delayed..oh yeah the build is a custom rig built by me: Mainboard: DFI cfx3200 dr/g
amd atholon 64x2 1.0 x2 socket 939
gskill ddr400 2gb
2 westen digital sata 250gb hard drives
512mb ati radeon HIS ice-Q graphics card
asus sata dvd burner. all packed into a raid max case 550watt. power supply..

Make sure that your video hardware drivers are installed(there is a nice little tool included to make it easier).

video drivers are installed properly using ati drivers. when it goes into screen saver its usually fine it freezes when you try to go back to desk top then screen freezes but mouse still moves...
