Good mornin', Dragonfly ...

Say, why don't you give us some specifics on your system, 'specially the sound card. We can give you a hand if we know more 'bout what you're trying to make work ...

I would look here first. Try adjusting the settings from here. Right click on your volume icon on your task bar and it will open up your sound mixer. If you don't have a volume icon you can add one by right clicking on your taskbar and adding it from there. Make sure you haven't accidently muted the sound somewhere as well.

Hi guys, I solved the problem by reinstalling my whole OS. I had time on my hands so I decided to just go ahead and do it. It is time consuming but good experience for me. I was trying to partition my hard drive manually with GParted and messed something up. Don't you just love linux, you can beat it to a pulp and still fix it without going down to the repair shop with $50.00 in your hand.

Sometimes it's just easier(and faster) to do a clean re-install. And the best part is, like you said, it doesn't cost you a dime!! <BREW>
