Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.9

having trouble getting wireless adapter to work

Postby cowboy972002 » Thu Nov 27, 2008 1:59 pm

I am a newbie and am having problems installing my wireless adapter on my laptop. I have an HP Pavilion dv5000 series laptop, I am trying to get my NetGear WG111 v2 wireless usb adapter to work with linux Ultimate Edition 1.9 and cannot. I reinstalled linux Ultimate Edition 1.9 on my computer with the adapter in and still does not work. Is this adapter compatable with linux? What do I have to do to get this wireless adapter to work, or would I be better off getting a different adapter for my wireless computing. All help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That's odd, I have the very same adapter and it worked out of the box in 1.9

Are you sure it's not seeing the wireless, sometimes Firefox starts in offline mode
File/ Work offline should be unchecked

Have you set it to roaming?
Click on Network Manager icon on the panel
Select Manual configuration
Hit the unlock button
enter your password
Select Wireless connection (If you can see this option your computer recognizes the wireless adapter)
check the box next to Roaming
OK or apply your way out of everything and see if you have internet
if yes, reboot and see if you have a working wifi at startup.
1st Box: Ultimate Edition 2.0 x64/ 1.8 x64
2nd Box: XP (dusty)
3rd Box: Stable Media box Ultimate Edition 1.8 x64 with XBMC

linux wasnt recognizing my netgear adapter so I bought a Linksys Range Plus wireless network usb adapter, and linux recognizes this adapter, but I still can not connect to my wireless router, i removed my broadcom wireless card and that didn't work. the only thing turned on for my internet access is ethernet, i dont know if my wireless needs to be turned on and if it does how do i do it. and how do i get my wireless adapter to recgonize a wireless signal on Ultimate Edition 1.9.
