do I need "repoubuntusoftware" as a source?

do I need "repoubuntusoftware" as a source?

Postby brjoon1021 » Wed Nov 26, 2008 1:08 am

Hi,

I don't want to step on toes, I assume that this is the repo for this distribution in particular. However, it takes really, really long to update the repo with synaptic and I already have multiverse, and medibuntu and partner enabled. Is there anything in the repoubuntusoftware repo that I might need ? For the last two releases, the upgrade script has not worked, it just says that a feisty based OS is necessary, so is the repo even working, anyway ?

You can speed up Synaptic by doing this:

Thanks,

so you are saying to select Canada as the location of the server and then have the servers ping'd to pick the best one of the Canadian servers, eh ? That helped the speed quite a bit, but the "repoubuntusoftware" still fails, for weeks now. Do you still have "repoubuntusoftware" selected in your third party sources ? I think that this is the Ultimate Edition repo, no ? The tweak that you suggested would not improve its speed anyway, right ?

As a general repo question: how come there are "main" and "source code" versions of the same repository and should they both be checked?

What I'm suggesting is hit the choose the best server button. ;) It will ping all the download sites and pick the best one for you. Mine just happens to be in Canada because that is where I live!!
Her is a screenshot of mine:
