Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.9

Again+Nvidia+xorg+dpkg recon

Postby himtuna » Mon Oct 13, 2008 10:46 pm

Ultimate ourney started with 1.7
Installed it and liked it at the very first moment.

Had a problem configuring graphics driver.
Code: Select all
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

worked.
v1.8 had to manually edit the xorg.conf file and added the mode and modelines.

v1.9 no luck!
a) cant go beyong 640 at system>administration>nvidia x server settings
b) dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg cant beyond the keyboard settings.
c) added manually the lines to xorg.

Still no luck. Can anybody give me a proper xorg file to replace with.
monitor 15" , max res:1280x1024 , dont know about refresh and vsync,hsync

They (Ubuntu) changed dpkg reconfigure xorg, in Hardy Heron. This is why you no longer have the same ability as what you did in 1.7. Some liked the change (when it worked for them with no hassels), some hated it. I was a in the latter. You can still go in and edit your xorg.conf file manually though (I had to do it in the past) by entering:
sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Find your resolutions and add / change to your hearts content. Did you not run envyng yet? What graphics card are you running?

I did run envy

Postby himtuna » Tue Oct 14, 2008 1:51 am

I did run envy and installed the drivers.

motherboard: Asus M2N-MXE SE
Processor: AMD AM2 4800+
Graphics (onboard) nvidia (dont know the spec)

and added the lines to xorg. Please take a look at it:

Code: Select all

Well, your onboard is a nvidia 6100 -
This should easily be recognized by envy and supported well. have you tried to run envyng again by selecting to remove the nvidia drivers, then reboot or restart X (cntrl+alt+backspace). After doing that try reinstalling again via envy, maybe something didn't take right. As far as giving you a correct xorg.conf file, I can't I don't have the same graphics card you do. I have a 6150 onboard solution here at work and my xorg.conf is very very simple:

Code: Select all
Section "InputDevice"
   Identifier   "Generic Keyboard"
   Driver      "kbd"
   Option      "XkbRules"   "xorg"
   Option      "XkbModel"   "pc105"
   Option      "XkbLayout"   "us"
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"
   Identifier   "Configured Mouse"
   Driver      "mouse"
   Option      "CorePointer"
EndSection

Section "Device"
   Identifier   "Configured Video Device"
   Driver      "nvidia"
   Option      "NoLogo"   "True"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"
   Identifier   "Configured Monitor"
EndSection

Section "Screen"
   Identifier   "Default Screen"
   Monitor      "Configured Monitor"
   Device      "Configured Video Device"
   Defaultdepth   24
EndSection

Section "ServerLayout"
   Identifier   "Default Layout"
  screen "Default Screen"
EndSection
Section "Module"
   Load      "glx"
EndSection

feel free to try what you'd like ;) All my compiz is working just fine and everyting just trucks right along.

Yes I think I must have done sin.
Thanks cowboy, I tried with your xorg but got the same thing again and again and again.:( :( :(
is there any other option other than
sudo nvidia xconfig
sudo nano edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
going to system>nvidia xserver settings

any other option other than reinstalling (already did 3 times ) and restarting it every time.
