timidity error- can someone tell me whats up

Postby spartan7 » Tue Sep 30, 2008 1:06 pm

Setting up timidity (2.13.2-19ubuntu1) ...
* Starting TiMidity++ ALSA midi emulation... [fail]
invoke-rc.d: initscript timidity, action "start" failed.
dpkg: error processing timidity (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
timidity
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

I'm getting this error when I try to sudo upgrade. Has anyone else had this problem?

yes, there is something wrong with upgrading that package. It's not limited to that package either, there are problems with hal too. Several of us at the reconstructor forum confirmed the same problem occurs in the chroot, so it's a package problem most likely. I know there is a way to fix hal but not sure about timidity, you'll have to look around.

Try putting those packages on hold, then doing an apt-get upgrade and see how that fares. After the upgrade, take them off hold.

Code: Select all
echo "<package_name> hold" | dpkg --set-selections

Code: Select all
echo "<package_name> install" | dpkg --set-selections
