I hope they get it working fairly soon, if I'm going to show off my Ubuntu Linux it had better be at least as good as Windows. I keep telling the people at the genealogy society about my system and even took my laptop up to show them, but when it wouldn't load the Nova Scotia vital statistics it made the system look inadequate to say the least.

Hi nick, Thanks for your interest. I just used your URL to send Viewpoint a description of my problem of not being able to get Viewpoint to install and work properly in Firefox, Firefox for Windows, and Internet Explorer for Linux. I explained I use Ubuntu 8.04. I also told them I needed it to view genealogy archives.
Maybe if enough Linux users complain they will rectify the problem sooner. I'm not the only one with problems as I read some of the forums and quite a few people are having problems.
Thanks again

Hi everyone, just a question about ie64linux. I have it successfully installed in ... wine.. drive c:..ie6, but was wondering why it does not appear in ... wine.. programs.. just the same as notepad. Nothing serious here just my curiosity as when I installed Firefox for windows it appeared in my ...wine..... programs. :?

Sometimes this kind of problems get solved the next time you log on. Try to log off and back on and see if it appears, if not, then the installation script was written sloppy and doesn't take care of the menus...
You can always add a manually customized launcher anyway

Hi zivley, logging off and on didn't fix it, it's OK tho because otherwise everything works alright. I was just curious as to why. I'm not going to worry about it. Thanks for the explanation.

3g Modem issues

Postby fariasluciano » Tue Jan 27, 2009 9:58 am

Hey, Guys! I´m new to the forum, and new to Linux too.
I´ve installed Ubuntu 8.04, and it worked fine, however, 8.10 won´t install no matter what, even the alternate installer. But that´s ok, 8.04 works fine for me. Almost perfect. Because I have a 3g usb huawey modem for internet connection, and i just can´t make it be recognized by the system. I tried some things i learned in some forum threads, but I was just ruining the system.
I know 8.10 have a native support for these devices, but unfortunately, I can´t install it. Freezes everytime. I just wanted to know if this ultimate edition, based in 8.04 have this support, and if so, I´ll just donwload it right away!
I read the description, but i could´nt see anything related to it.
Can you guys help me?

Thanx!

Ps: Sorry for the bad english.

Estimado Luciano Farias,

Podrias dar mas detalles acerca de tu modem? que modelo exacto, cuales son los metodos que has probado y te malograron el sistema?

(Edit by strider, just would like every one see the translation. ;) )
