update to 2.1 from 1.8?

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.8

update to 2.1 from 1.8?

Postby ubuntu55 » Mon Jun 15, 2009 9:35 pm

Hi, is it possible to do a simple update from 1.8 to 2.x or should I do a new install? If so, since 1.8 is working great for me is there any good reason to update to the latest and greatest?

Thanks!

Hello ubuntu55.

The possibility for you doing a upgrade is possible through Ubuntu online system upgrade to 9.04. Not too sure about you doing a upgrade to Ultimate Edition 2.1. A recommendation would be to do a fresh installation of 2.1, only if you see it necessary to. To upgrade to the latest is not always the best thing to do as sometimes new brings new changes that are not always good. Since 1.8 is working great & giving you all that you need, i would recommend you continue to use & maintain your current version!!

Best regards

If you want a unique learning experience, you can try the upgrade option. there will be a lot of saving and a little tweaking involved and will take some time. on the other hand, a simple back up of your data and installed programs and tweaks then port them over after a fresh install is a bit faster. you could also make a partition for the newer version and have them side by side. are you going the 32 or 64 bit route? one of the things that will be tested is firefox's handling of 64 bit flash player. currently the 64 bit systems have been using the 32 bit version with the occasional grey screen on sites such as you tube. so hopefully those issues will be resolved.

Thams for the replies. I think I'll stay with 1.8 as it is working quite well for me.

Peace,
