Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.8

errors with gamers upgrade

Postby moshe » Mon Jul 21, 2008 9:58 pm

I had an unusual occurrence this afternoon while doing the gamers upgrade. Have had ultimate installed for several months (1.8) and after finishing the upgrade, the cleanup process took over 2 hours. Upon finishing, none of the games would run.The menu items were there and an inspection of the games directory on my system showed that while the support files for each game were installed, the main files were not. A look thru my installed software using synaptic package manager showed this to be the case. Only the support files were installed. Am I missing something here? (as to the process) I attempted to install ultimatix as per the forum help file and it seemed to install ok but when I attempt to get updates,I receive errors. Seems that automatix is still installed and some files cannot be verified so I get a partial update option. As I am rather new to the linux community, any assistance you might provide will be greatly appreciated. I love Ultimate . Thanks for all the work you have put into the project. I'm sure the problem is with my install and look forward to getting this glitch fixed. Thanks again. Moshe :P

moshe- this might be a case of a missing repository listing for the Ultimate Edition repo. Just open a terminal (Applications>>Accessories>>Terminal) and enter:
Code: Select all
gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

Then look for the entry:
deb http://repoubuntusoftware.info/ harty all #Ultimate Repo

If you don't find it then simply copy above and paste it into your file at the bottom. Note that you will have to enter:
Code: Select all
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

and then enter your password. I only like to issue that one when we know that there is a missing item or you would like to edit and save your sources.list. If this is the case and you needed to add that to your list - save your file and close out gedit. Then back in a terminal enter the following to refresh your list:
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

Then try running your Ultamatix again and see what happens. Post back with your results please.

Another thing to think about, is your version the 64 or 32 bit version? running the old update script that's on the desktop after installing, won't install the games on a 64-bit 1.8 installation, so if you're running x64, that would be my guess.
As for the "clean-up" process, sometimes it will just sit there doing nothing, until the end of time, and sometimes it's done in 4 hours, or sometimes 5 seconds. I've noticed that most of the time, having Automatix selected, will cause it to sit there forever, "cleaning up".
Hope something in there helps!

Tib

I'm with nick on this one ... you should just be able to hit the Tab key to highlight the 'ok' button and then hit enter.

yepper guys,it was late and I was stupid tired. The tab key it was. Thanks for pointing out just how slow I was getting. Ultimatix seems to work but still having problems with the games. Most other programs seemed to work ok. Going to replace the video board today and update video drivers to see if the problem lies there. ATI has been giving me fits lately. Perhaps the GeForce FX card will do the trick. Thanks for being so helpful to a newbie even when I seem to be brain dead.BTW, Google earth cannot identify my ATI 9250 board so the FX might be the fix. Daddy X3, the error in my repo library was that it showed the fiesty lib vice harty.changed that and got ultamatix working.
