Packaging of Ultimate Edition question continued....

Postby stlsaint » Mon Jul 25, 2011 9:10 pm

So per this thread http://forumubuntusoftware.info/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=6195 i suggested that we allow Ultimate Edition to be a full development ready distro. My suggestion still stands but it has come to my attention that some serious tweaking will be in order for this to happen which i will explain. Now per this thread http://forumubuntusoftware.info/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=6187 i show how the package lintian is causing apt to want to remove ultimate edition all together. I now have that same issue with package qemu-kvm as shown:

Code: Select all
stlsaint@devcore:~$ sudo apt-get purge qemu-kvm
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  python-gtk2-dev gambas2-gb-pdf liblash2 meld xcdroast libgladeui-1-9 melt
  python-gtk2-doc gnome-do libsm-dev qt4-doc tropic-session-splashes
  libconvert-binhex-perl libofx4 peace-wallpapers medit gambas2-gb-form tucan........(loads of packages here)
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  python-vm-builder* qemu* qemu-kvm* qemu-launcher* qemubuilder* qemuctl*
  ubuntu-vm-builder* ultimate-edition-2.7*
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 8 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
After this operation, 1,722MB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]? N
Abort.
stlsaint@devcore:~$

Now my reasoning for wanting to remove qemu-kvm is that it is not playing nice with virtualbox. I have attached a screenshot of that error from vbox. So this tells me that somehow kvm and virtualbox cannot coexist together in my current setup which is why i wanted to try removing kvm.

Current kvm packages installed include:
qemu-kvm
libvirt-bin
ubuntu-vm-builder
bridge-utils
virt-viewer

Virtualbox error:
vboxerror.png

So the end result is:
1. How are these packages so tied into Ultimate Edition that that cannot be individually removed?? (lintian & qemu-kvm, and probably more)
2. How to make all play nice (unless i just messed something up)

Oh yes that command does work Blackwolf, but upon reboot the module is reloaded. Which why is it seemed to not work the first time cause i immediately rebooted after running the command. After the reboot it reloads kvm and kvm-intel! So i guess for a temporary hack i can run the command without rebooting to make it work. Quick script write up will work for now whenever i reboot. Thanks man i appreciate it alot! I was without any virtualization capabilities at one point but you have squared me away!! <BREW>

My concern still remains with my original post. Due to my contributions to community i rely heavily on a bleeding edge developmental environment for packaging, cross-compiling for ARM, qemu/kvm etc. Now on my current install vbox and kvm will not play nice so im hoping this issue is fixed in 3.0 but even more so im hoping that my current issue which remains unresolved in OP is fixed. Can any mods/admin running Ultimate Edition verify wether or not my issue is fixed or not.
The issue being not able to remove packages e.g. lintian without removing the what seems to be a meta-package ultimate-edition-2.9 :?:
