32bit Install on laptop

The Ultimate Guide for the rest of us

32bit Install on laptop

Postby Chriseros » Thu Oct 21, 2010 12:26 pm

Hello,
I have been trying to install the latest Ultimate 2.8 on my lap top (all went well with 64bit on my PC).
The problem I am having is, I get to the Live install and when I click to install the OS it asks for a password (I don't have root privilege).
This is a fresh install formated HD with windows to NTFS so as not to have anything Linux on it.
Been using Ubuntu on my laptop for over two years now, all has worked well.
I am quite sure it is not hardware related.
I have downloaded UU2.8 on windows and Ubuntu, burned from both windows and Ubuntu as slow as possible.
Kinda stumped here.
Any help would be great.
Thanks, Chris

Odd 1 there. You picking the default try Ultimate option ?

wiped and formated the drive so it is not picking up your old install ? Not that it should even matter lol.

Where did ya download your copy ?

Downloaded file from Sourceforge.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ultimat ... o/download
Downloaded and burned in both Windows and Linux.
Completly formated harddrive to Windows NFTS, so as not to have any Linux on it.
After starting cd the only option besides memtest that works is to hit enter.
"Expert", "cli", "install" gives me an error.
On start up "boot" page I get three errors that have to do with "gfxboot" "gfxboot-foreground" "gfxboot-backgroung" unknown keyword in config file.
After "Live cd" starts I get a login window and can't go any further.
Swapped out harddrives just to make sure.
I know it's a noddle scratcher.
Thanks, Chris

Bad Memory.
I just wanted to update what I found and what the solution was.
Before I tried to install UU 2.8, I installed new memory in the laptop.
Turns out the memory was bad in some way.
I replaced the new memory with the old and bingo.
Installed just great.
Thanks, Chris
