TOUCHSCREEN

Postby silvertongued1 » Tue Jun 29, 2010 12:31 pm

Ok, I guess this is where I post this.

I am in the market for a new laptop. I'm looking at a very well priced Acer Touchscreen, because let's face it, the touchscreen will be slick if it works.

My question is whether or not Ultimate supports touchscreen, or how much horror will come of trying to get it to.

Any thoughts, suggestions, comments?

I think it will depend on the specific model like most things. I have read of some working after a bit of tweaking like the quanta but from what I have read on it so far it didn't sound perfect like it takes a double tap instead of a single tap sometimes and little things like that. Perhaps if we knew the exact machine specs. the answer could be more useful.

This is what I'm about to buy, based on the answer. I love my current acer, and the specs are good for the price, the only question is whether the touchscreen will work with Ultimate Edition.

It's a curiosity thing mostly. From what I have read, it seems that the input from the touchscreen will be receive as a mouse input would be, so for say, compiz, the key bindings for the mouse will be the same, and that will determine how I'll use the screen.

Am I correct?

This is the most info. I have found for it so far
Touchscreen X11 driver missing
It looks like it's being worked on, maybe it will work out of the box in the final of Maverick, Ultimate Edition 2.8/2.9 but it's too early to tell right now.
It requires a driver for the touchscreen to act as a mouse.
Really haven't found much useful info. for that model.

Ok, cool. If it is a driver issue, I plan on having Win7 and Ultimate Edition dual booted, so I will just pull the driver in from Windows. No biggie there. Even my inexperienced self can figure that much out. lol

But thanks for the info.
