Duel-Boot Error 25... niether OS will load!

Postby WinBlows » Sun Apr 27, 2008 10:39 am

Not good for a sunday morning :(

I installed 1.7 alongside Win XP yesterday. Everything seemed to work fine. This morning I rebooted and chose to boot XP. When I restarted to go back to Ubuntu I got this message:

Loading Grub....

Error 25

Nothing. No OS Choices and no way to load either OS. I'm sure it's a problem with grub, just odd it didnt do this until after I booted into Windows. Guess I need to fix the boot loader, but being the noob I am, I'm not sure how. I am running from the live cd now, patiently waiting for a little guidance. If anyone could throw me a bone on Sunday moring I would be greatful.... Sundays are supposed to be my "Crunch Day" for getting everything done I have been putting off :)

ouch... gee I guess if grub won't even load you're screwed... The only thing I can think of is to pop in the live cd and to recover any data from either partition you have then reinstall... I guess you could try to reinstall grub, but I couldn't help you on this, i'm not a grub expert sorry.

No USB in use. The only thing I did was connect a HDD with all of my development work. I checked to see if there was conflicting settings in the bios, but didnt find anything...even tried disconnecting the HDD I had hooked up. I backed up everything in Windows, luckily I save everything to a seperate HDD....so no big deal if I need to reload WinBlows :).. not that I'm particularly interested in re-installing windows yet again.

So... looks like it will be a long day...

That did work. I even had the choice to boot windows, which I figured I would likely loose....havent tried yet.

I'm still having issues with video, theres a good 2-4 sec delay when typing and 30 + sec delay when doing just about everything else. Worked fine last night. Sure it's video related...though I installed the driver ok last night :(

Back at it... thanks for the advice, I'm sure ill be back.

Forgive me if I have missed reading your system specs somewhere in here. But if you list your video card, maybe we can get you up to speed. Even utilizing a "vesa" driver you should still be running a lot faster than you are!
