I use Xplornet and they are very heavy handed in traffic shaping and blocking out active internet traffic which is what happens when you use use a torrent. Yes my router is configured properly it is a Dlink and I am using an odd numbered port #. Any ideas or suggestions would be oh so welcome.
I was on direcpc (satellite) some years back and only got 40 hours a month & was indeed expensive, allow me to break down, how I beat them, they hit me all the time for what they called "fair access policy", their service was set at 70kbps per pipe, I got around this with download accelerator and opened at least 10 pipes, I have seen as high as 1,200KB/ sec (1.2 megabytes not mega bit per sec, using this technique. after cracking open the pipes typically 15 minutes into it they would catch me & chop my bandwidth, I would flick back to dialup & wait an hour only to resume at that speed it does not take long. I know I have controlled Cab's computer though VNC and watched as he downloaded almost 4 GB (Ultimate Edition Gamers) in a half hour. When I was on satelite it was the fastest connection I had seen until I seen his. Satellite if it is still the same way, is faster then most cable minus sending.
Direcpc's backbown was through Hughes network, I see they offer 4 separate types. This has been many years ago, I had a tripple LMB 1 for tv and 2 for comps. It was the most expensive net I have ever had, I feel for you (I have had dual business class cable in the past & was cheaper), I cooked Cab in this dept
out going at least.
The software I used was called download accelerator pro. The shareware version I think at least at the time only allows 4 or 6 connections, the pro is 10 per download, this is where satellite shines. Sorry I could not be of more help.
This is a bit off the subject, but kinda on it. You know me I like to educate... Did you know *nix in general is the macdaddy for "load balancing" connections, I wish I ran nix back when I had dual cable. It has the ability to merge multiple connections into 1 connection in and out. Where's my wireless card, the neighbor is not using their connection...
