Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.7

Macbook Core 2 Duo

Postby gallieg444 » Mon Mar 31, 2008 12:21 am

I have just isntalled this wonderful os on my macbook c2duo setup. However I am having troubles with the wireless. I have searched google and just can't seem to find anything that seems to say yes I will be able to use wireless. So far all ive seen is huge lists of things to do which all seem out dated from 2006 and early 07. I would just like to know if its possible thanks

What wireless make and model are you using? I'm not a wireless guy(nor a mac guy), but if you supply this info I'm sure someone here can get you going a.s.a.p. If it is built in, Mac should be able to give you the details(just give them a call). Good luck!! Hope you get it working soon. pch

Hey! I've had some experience with wireless, and i've discovered two of the best ways (I THINK) to get it working. unfortunately, ndiswrapper won't work on a mac i don't think but if you want to try some windows drivers you'll need to run

lspci

In terminal (apps, accessories, terminal) and look for a line related to wireless. If there is a model number in there related to broadcom 43** (* being any two numbers) you're in luck, and can forget ndiswrapper. if there's something else, boot into osx and download drivers for that model. To install ndiswrapper, get this package from packages.ubuntu.com or just google it: Windows Wireless Drivers. it will emulate a driver originally used for people running windows with your card but makes it compatible for Ultimate Edition! (you can access this package once you've installed it from administration menu)

Back to what I was saying about broadcom 43**...

go here if that shows up: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiD ... er/bcm43xx

it goes WAY more in depth and i think gives download links for each ubuntu version. just follow the instructions ;)

Wow, I avoid posts like this, just because I feel mac is 100% left field to me, I have alot of catching up to do. The 5 or 6 hours I have I feel I have made some ground here on the forum, what sucks once done back to the "grind stone" thanks vinca, I will return the favor.
