Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.7

Ultimate Edition 1.7-released.

Postby painterh » Sun Jan 27, 2008 12:53 pm

TheeMahn; I am using 1.6 and it is fabulous. It is the one distro (compilation) that just made me leave XP behind. Great job!! Is there going to be an updated script for going from 1.6 to 1.7? I'll wait patiently, but was just curious. By the way, I am new enough to Linux to ask a (probably stupid) question, but is it possible to upgrade from the dvd, without losing all settings and customizations. I know that with Win XP you can do a "dirty install" over the top to sometimes correct corruption problems. If not, I will wait for a script. Again, thanks for the superb job on 1.6 and previous editions.
There are 3 things that happen when you start getting old. The first is your memory starts to go and I can't remember the other 2. Wait! What was I talking about?

My system:
Asus A8n-sli Deluxe MB
Opteron 170 OC'd to 2.8ghz
1 gig ram
2 160 gig Seagate sata 7200 Barracuda drives
Writemaster Dvd burner with lightscribe
Nvidia 7600GS graphics card
Dual boot; Ultimate 1.8 x64 (95% time) & Win XP Home (only for college course work)

I am really hard pressed on what I can accomplish, I have very little time to work on the upgrade script, I was hoping I would have time to clean up the USplash maker, while I was off on vacation. Seems like the only thing I accomplished was the release of Ultimate Edition 1.7, I would suggest a full install of Ultimate Edition 1.7, it does not look good for the upgrade script, I currently don't have time working 3 jobs. There is a tool called sbackup that will backup your settings you can install Ultimate Edition 1.7 and restore your setting, I have not tried this personally but imagine it would work.

I am sorry I could not be of more help. Welcome to the board.

Best regards,

TheeMahn

Yep, it uses about the same space as Ultimate Edition 1.6. Let me know if the sbackup option works for you or not.

You should be able to use your linksys usb in Ultimate Edition with ndiswrapper and the XP drivers from linksys. Ultimate Edition also has the GUI version which is very lacking in other distro's...
