The fact that you keep a picture of him handy is kind of telling,
don't you think?
It also goes a long ways to explain your affinitive propensity for arcane nomenclature.

Think: Liberace does Interior Decorating.
Yessss... That's it... That queasy feeling you're getting means you understand perfectly.
More to the point, GENTLEMEN, is that I now think I have this whole thing figured out; the whole Compiz, Metacity, Emerald, GTK thing is now straight in my head (allow to emphasize "straight"). I guess I can appreciate all the flexibility that having all these different themeing elements make available, but damn it's confusing.
I got into a discussion with a guy about whether or not GTK "themes" modify window decorations (there's that phrase again). He was saying GTK themes (like you'd get from Gnome-Art) only theme buttons and sliders and the like - not window borders. "Whoa," says I, "what about this theme" (pic of a theme from Gnome-Art that clearly modifies the window borders)? Oh, well it turns out that any particular theme can have Metacity elements, GTK elements or both! Suddenly it all fell into place... Everything. It was a veritible epiphany of praterhuman proportions (that's for you Leadfingers).
So then... the Metacity/GTK theme will show up when selected, UNLESS you have Emerald installed, which, it seems, is rather partial to taking over doing the window decorations, or just flat out making them disappear altogether.

I am currently running Ultimate Edition KDE4 (currently unreleased & uploading) eyecandy out the ying-yang, the first thing I personally see as a problem when setting all eyecandy "hot" is conflictions with each other and refresh. I can use compiz fusion (git built) and no KDE4 effects all is good, or 100% fusion once again all good, mix and match here comes the problems.
TheeMahn wrote:Personally, I hate KDE all together looks too much like windows, but the users ask and they shall receive. It is not to be considered stable what so ever. Just a glimpse into the future. BTW I have zero problems not being able to see any text across the board. No matter which theme I have seen that is included. Admin / mods have seen this vid it is not open to the public yet, actually I may make a new one before I drop it to the public.
The Emerald Window Decorator is a custom window decorator shipped with Compiz Fusion that allows for theming and full composite window decorations with the use of engines.
Emerald allows for all sorts of different configurations and layouts of buttons, look, title bars and frames.
Emerald Window Decorator is completely independent of any desktop, and you specify your own themes to use for it.
The Decoration plugin [actually called Window Decorations in the Compiz-Config Settings Manager] must be enabled in order for Emerald Window Decorator to function.
When launched, Emerald will replace your current window decorator with itself.
The default theme is Beryl Red.
To launch Emerald, use
- Code: Select all
emerald --replace
The Decoration plugin [actually called Window Decorations in the Compiz-Config Settings Manager] provides a window border for your windows. The decoration plugin is essentially useless without a window decorator, and you need one running so that the decoration plugin can render the window border.
Common Decorators
So far, there are 3 different decorators that you may use with the decoration plugin.
• GTK Window Decorator for use with Metacity themes
• KDE Window Decorator for use with KWin themes
• Emerald - a custom Compiz window themer.
