for compiz-fusion do the following in terminal
sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager
While it won't hurt to install CCSM via apt-get, it was pointed out to me that ccsm has been replaced by
compiz-config System >> Preferences >> Advanced Desktop Effects Settings and to access settings and such you can use the Fusion-Icon located at
Applications >> System Tools >> Compiz-Fusion-Icon. Everything you need for Compiz is already installed, just a little different method for getting there.
Now - which d'load are you refering to? the 1.7 GNOME or 1.7 GNOME/KDE version? I installed the 1.7 GNOME only version and I did not have any way to adjust compiz settings at all and I did have to install ccsm. I had no prefferences button in the change background window>>visual effects. After installing ccsm though synaptic I did have one. So I think this post should actually be a little more specific in the 1.7 release.
i have the gnome/kde version. and like you stated daddyx3 there is no way to adjust compiz. while fusion-icon is there it would not load. kept giving me an error similar to this
* Using the GTK Interface
* No module named compizconfig
... Trying another interface
* Using the Qt4 Interface
* No module named PyQt4
... Trying another interface
* Using the Qt3 Interface
* No module named qt
... Trying another interface
* Error: All interfaces failed, aborting!
so i just simply install ccsm. i havent tried fusion icon since i install ccsm though so idk if fusion-icon works right now. ill be trying that later this evening though to see if its fixed now.
Baphomet: compiz-config isnt there from the beginning. i had to install ccsm to get Advanced Desktop Effects Settings to show in my menu.
