(Solved) Wiping a folder

Postby xtremesupremacy3 » Thu Mar 13, 2008 8:42 pm

Hey people,

Hope you can help me here.
I have been forced to share my beloved laptop and had to move files from another pc (Windows) to my laptop. Just so everyone keeps their files. Now my 80gb HDD is filled. thats a bummer since i get problems everywhere now, cant even send things to trash to empty.
I presume the only option was to shred my Music folder since thats a start to empty but the problem is that there are SOOOO many files there id be there forever to empty it one by one, is there a way i can shred all in one go without questions being asked by my pc?

Or is there anything you can recommend?

well, i would advise to un-install any programs you dont use first.
or if you think about it, your disk space will increase with everything you wipe,
for example, say you have 2mb free on your HDD and you delete a music file of 2mb you will have 4 mb free.
and so on. it would take a few tries but once you get it going it'll only take a few mins.
and i do not know of such a program.
Any one can do something half-assed, it takes a real man to say "im gonna do it half-assed, even if you pay me."

If you are really stuck and wan't to run a simple command in terminal you could just run a cd command to get into your directory where you music is stored. (ex.= my music is in /home/music then you would just enter:
Code: Select all
cd /home/music ; rm -f *

which would remove all recursive files in the directory of /home/music without confirmation. This will wipeout all files within that directory without confirmation :o

You are talking about removing files while in windows right..? or free up space in windows. then what inf1cations said holds true..at least free up some space so you can maneuver..you can also use a USB stick also to move files to also make some room..plus not loose data..

You might want to consider compressing all the files first instead of deleting them. Then if you want something, you can just extract what you need when it is needed. pch

Thanks for all your ideas, I ended up sending everything to Ipod and then wiping it freeing up about 12Gb.
