(SOLVED) Can't Change Cursor Style

Help and support for Ultimate Edition 3.8

(SOLVED) Can't Change Cursor Style

Postby spankmon » Thu Jan 09, 2014 2:36 am

Using Ultimate 3.8 (Mate). The animated Ultimate Edition cursor doesn't work well with proprietary drivers installed, it blinks and jiggles, so I switched to a non-animated cursor... but it only changes to non-animated when hovering over Firefox and nothing else. How can I make the cursor-change apply to the entire desktop?

This is an issue that stems all the way back to the release of Lucid. There was a bug report filed and hundreds of comments and Ubuntu devs said it is cosmetic and refused to address the issue. I then took matters into my own hands when I developed the ultimate-edition-cursors pack and raised the priority level higher then Ubuntu's to completly wipe out thier broken settings. If you are certain this is what you want, what ever cursor theme you have installed below ultimate-edition-cursors pack in priority will take over, and no you won't be able to change it then as well without extreame hacking of the O/S. I am sorry I can not provide you a more viable solution.

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get remove --purge ultimate-edition-cursors

Thanks for the reply. The cursor was a slight distraction only. I still think Ultimate Edition 3.8 is fabulous and am looking forward to version 4.0 Ultimate Edition. Anyway, the cursor problem went away after I upgraded the video card from amd-6870 to nvidia-gtx760 (331 driver).
