Install/upgrade hplib.

Hplib is there in most Ultimate Edition versions. If its not install it. If its an older version uninstall it and install the new version from the above link.

When I installed the driver now HP GUI doesn't work. It still doesn't recognize the printer. Never had any problems like this with prior versions.

one thing I noticed when I tried to connect to our office printer was that the Ubuntu drivers were 32 bit and my installation was 64. Unfortunately that's an issue with the manufacturers not Ubuntu or any distro.

Harley51, I implore you to follow Blackwolf's advice in delving your system specifications and current OS. It helps us in helping you solve problems quickly.

You might need to run the command as root. Run hp-setup as root user from terminal or from desktop:
Press ALT+F2 and type:
Code: Select all
gksudo hp-setup

or if you use kde, then:
Code: Select all
kdesu hp-setup

All this did was say no drivers installed. I have Intel motherboard 4 gig ram Intel processor Ati 4000 series graphic card. HP Photo-smart 7520 printer. I have never had this much trouble getting any distro to recognize a printer before.
Any solutions.

I used XxJokers21xX solution for his missing DVD Burners. Worked perfectly. Looks like there is a problem in the orginal kernel that caused all these problems.
