kernel 3.7.1 is released and touted as 'stable'.
You will lots and even more than most.....compiling kernels, patching in drivers etc..
But i reckon dont bother yourself with mainline kernels and stick with the stable ones...
IF you do get mainline working..... well technically its really not and will break the moment you cause a tectonic shift by compiling stuff and patching in drivers....these kernels just hate that!!!! ...its a different situation if you are master in c programming and 'love' to use gdb at the terminal.
Tinker around with the stable ones.............compile 3.7.1 with Ultimate Edition and if things 'work' out chances are it might just run better than most
of the others.
Open source radeon drivers have come a long ........and have a long way to go before it can be used.....they are very useful for ULP radeon embedded cards, large terminals at factories implementing the same and kiosks.......basically places where you require everything to be stable and working.
fglrx with the proprietary amd drivers are highly recommended.
i dont know if you use the drivers from amd.com website or the open source.....but the open source drivers are highly purpose bound and wont work well with compiz.
