No problem so basically probably needs that layer(3.2). Is set up well just boots into 3.7 very easily. I do like the updates since they have been very effective. Just wish I could shut down the ones involving updating that kernel, since will be no need! Have a 500gig hard drive so space is no issue, just don't want to update something that am not using! All others are welcome!!! As I catch mistakes later on after I do something is true for everyone else! Updates are that and some of the improvements, were absolutely awesome! Maybe will just try and do them here and there! If anyone has an idea how to shut updates down for the 3.2 kernel would greatly appreciate it! Thanks for all advice up to this point and further is great to have help. It is also the help that got me onto to this great OS and kernel!!!! So always thanks for that!!!!

You can exclude kernal updates by editing the /etc/apt/preferences file
Code: Select all
sudo -s

Code: Select all
gedit /etc/apt/preferences
Just place the appropriate text and save
Code: Select all
Package: linux-generic linux-headers-generic linux-image-generic linux-restricted-modules-generic
Pin: version 3.2.35-1 (***This will vary, so place correct linux "Installed Version" here that you want to exclude)
Pin-Priority: 1001

close and save
Code: Select all
apt-get update

and continue on updating as normal...
***To verify the kernel version you want to remove you can open up synaptic and search for the kernel you no longer want to get updates for, and look at the second column "Installed Version" and annotate the numbers...

Thank you, Thank you!!! Don't want to go backwards, although this move forward is and has been one heck of an experience!!!! Probably should write up a how to on all this! I mean the debs are real easy to install, but have to watch out after installation! The change on the fglrx is quite severe and anyone thinking it is not installed not registered and clicks to install on additional drivers will wind up in a bad state! I found this out the hard way! I removed it, reinstalled the exton kernel and is once again flip flopping(compiz awesome!) as it should! There are a good amount of programs that are moving incredibly faster and if this is the future of Linux am sure is going to take its rightful place!!!! Is unbelievable! I just watched a flash delete everything off of it within a couple minutes! Kernel 3.2 would spin a couple minutes and error out! So please, Linus keep writing and don't stop! Compilers, make sure these kernels are done properly! Lets keep Linux on top and don't upset the newbies! Takes time to learn and new users can leave in haste when the problems are complex! Want to thank the compiler of the Exton kernel as is beyond reproach and only shows old files as missing when installed. Files that have been extinct for some time now! I also made the suggestion to a new user to move to this Exton kernel as saw a referral to one of the others. Is a complicated move compiling, so would rather point to a deb that is compiled properly. 35 is not right and should be avoided at all costs! Am happy to get away from that one as cause me major headaches! This exton one is designed for ubuntu and works quite well, just have to leave it as is and update your regular programs and will be good to go! Once again thanks, put it all in and actually am hoping can dump 3.2 but if I can't will just live with it! Don't have to worry much as 3.7 never gets to grub unless it is force too!!!!
