Will not boot

Feedback for Ultimate Edition 4.2

Will not boot

Postby robin.worden » Fri Sep 26, 2014 12:31 pm

I have been trying for weeks now...I have tried almost every version ...from x64 to gamers to x86 even lite and I can use it from disk but when I install it looks like it installed just fine on reboot all I get is a black screen and nothing more. I don't know what the problem is. I have a Lenovo G505S computer with a 1 terr hd and 6gb of ram don't know exactly what else you would need. It was originally a windows 8 system but a stopped the secure boot before removing windows so that is not the issue and I have Open Suse 13 running on it now.So I don't believe that is the issue. My problem with Suse is since their last update it will not stay connected to the internet.I have really been wanting to try Ultimate edition but so far...no luck...any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

I still don't kow what the problem is but I decided to install Mint as dual boot with Ultimate Edition now I can get a boot menu which I was not getting before...If I click on other options under Ultimate Edition and click any option there it boots just fine...Still playing around trying to figure out what else I can do. I honestly like Ultimate Edition now that I have had the chance to play around with it a bit and plan to keep it on here even if I dual boot it with Mint. I am fairly new to Linux in general ...I do not know too much about it honestly...I have used it before...just don't know much about Terminal and I HATE windows which is what made me go looking into Linux to start with.

Ok so after the one and only time it would boot from other options I tried again to reinstall...I used Ultimate Edition 4.2 x86...as usual install looked like it went fine. and again nothing but black screen on restart so I decide i am going to put suse back on...Very odd but I thought I had the disk in dvd drive so I F12 because windows 8 bios sucks...and I choose Dvd hit enter and what happens....I don't know why or how or if there is a way to fix this...It started Ultimate Edition ...so I can get it to start but in the most round about way possible...so I have tested this and it works every time ...Start computer F12 hit dvd and boom Ultimate Edition which is in the Hard drive starts....any ideas what I can do so it will start when I start computer without having to hit F12

I tried to install from the boot screen but it would not ...so I did it from Live CD. I put all the specs I could find in signature line...if there is anything I missed let me know.

Ok will give that a try...I really love the system. It has everything I need without actually having to look for the different browsers I use...It already comes with Chromium Office...It has every possible program...3 different makers I believe. Where else can u get not 1 but 3 versions of office programs. So I want to keep this even if i have to keep telling it to boot from DVD to get it boot the HD...LOL

Ok so I made a bootable usb with Ultimate 4.5...installed...and does exactly the same thing...go to restart...black screen...restarts F12-start from DVD and it boots into the system. I really don't know what else to do I may just leave it this way because otherwise it runs great. I love all the software that comes with it.Its easy to use.Graphically it is beautiful too. So if I can fix this great...if I can't...Its not that big a deal. It will certainly prevent anyone from being able to use my computer that is for sure

I think you are misunderstanding...It has installed on the hard drive but will only boot into it when I F12 and hitt boot from DVD....There is no DVD in the drive...I can save files to it. It shows my hdd and how much space ...all the normal stuff...I changed the wallpaper...when I restart it all still there..I just have to start up a bit oddly...I hit power then f12 which takes u to boot menu...then arrow down for DVD then it boots the hard drive...No idea why...If I just hit power...I get a black screen..

That is how it is set up...HDD first then DVD then USB and every time I try to let it boot direct to HDD i get a black screen

I don't really know where the problem is...the system...which is clearly on the HDD will not start unless I do the F12...arrow down to DVD then enter...I would say its almost like it has the 2 confused somehow...And if I put an actual DVD in sometimes it will start DVD and sometimes it will still start the System.

Ok so I went into Bios just changed it from legacy first to uefi first....didn't seem to make any diff. Also changed it to the opposite...boot from DVD first now and HDD second then usb....now it does boot up on power on but if you just try to do restart from the system you still get a black screen. also once it starts it says internal error ..with Gnome-do can't remember the exact error but something about not a Ultimate Edition package. So i removed it like it said to do.
