4.2 is silent! [SOLVED]

4.2 defaults to mute but when I turn the sound back on, it stays silent, This hardware may be a bit too ancient for 4.2
sound works in Win7
I have options of HDA Intel (ALSA mixer) and built in Analog Audio
Laptop Velocity EL 80 core 2 duo 2 Ghz. 2G RAM
Sound card: Intel NM10/ICH7 (rev 02)
COMPAL Electronics device 0017

Try using pavucontrol.

I am having the same problems... I am a linux newb so not really clear on how to go about problem solving, but sound worked just fine in 3.9 and works fine on the windows side, just silent on 4.2

System specs in signature.

Open a terminal:
press ALT+F2 and type:
Code: Select all
gnome-terminal

And then copy paste what Xanayoshi wrote in the above post; that will install pavucontrol.

Open pavucontrol and play around the settings...
goto output devices, under - built in audio analog stereo -- click on -- line out. It has to work.

Works for me too when I lost audio a while ago. <BREW> :D
